THE BURE VALLEY STEAM RAILWAY & NATIONAL TRUST PROPERTY BLICKLING HALL
Saturday 7th September 2024
We travel this morning to Wroxham and the Bure
Valley Railway Station for a nostalgic trip by steam on
Norfolk’s longest narrow-gauge railway which runs
between the bustling town of Wroxham to the historic
market town of Aylsham. The 18 mile round trip runs
through the pretty Bure Valley countryside following
the meandering River Bure through meadowland and
ancient pasture. This afternoon we continue to Blickling
Hall a Jacobean stately home situated in 5,000 acres of
parkland in a loop of the river Bure, near the village of
Blickling. The mansion was built on the ruins of a Tudor
building for Sir Henry Hobart from 1616 and designed
by Robert Lyminge. Explore above and below stairs in
the mansion and discover the garden and the restored walled garden. At the Stables Cafe you’ll find a variety of hot and cold dishes to soup, sandwiches and cakes with vegetarian and gluten options with ample seating both inside and out. If you feel like a pub lunch The Buckinghamshire Arms is a 17th century former coaching inn adjacent to the Hall which offers a traditional English pub lunch, with picturesque surroundings and plenty of history. A DREAM PRODUCTION of LES MISERABLE MATINEE PERFORMANCE
Thursday 12th September 2024
A great day out for all theatre goers join us to see a
matinee performance of Les Misérables the world’s
longest-running musical, seen by over 120 million
people globally. It flies its flag over London at the
Sondheim Theatre. The current production of Boublil
and Schönberg’s classic has been hailed as ‘Les Mis for
the 21st Century’ with new sets, costumes and video
design. Its heart-wrenching, life-affirming story of
redemption and revolution makes it one of the best
musicals in the West End. The show follows former
convict Jean Valjean, who spent 19 years in jail for
stealing a loaf of bread. Revolution is in the air in France
as Valjean breaks his parole to start a new life, while the
merciless police inspector Javert hunts him down.
Adapted from French author Victor Hugo’s novel, there are many iconic songs in the Les Misérables musical including “One Day More”, “I Dreamed a Dream” and “Bring Him Home”.
